ANZ today announced the launch of ANZ eGate, the first secure internet-based payments gateway to facilitate development of business-to-business e-commerce.

ANZ eGate allows secure processing and management of both business-to-business and business-to-consumer transactions by supporting credit card payment and, for the first time, deferred trade terms settlement.

Deferred trade terms settlement is an essential element in the development of business-to-business e-commerce and the growth of services such as e-procurement. Other features of ANZ eGate include:

  • Comprehensive reporting and reconciliation for both buyer and seller allowing more effective control of purchasing and receivables management
  • Integration with non-internet based commerce systems such as Interactive Voice Response, call centres and point-of-sale systems.

Owned and managed by ANZ, eGate is the most advanced multi-payment gateway currently available in Australia.

ANZ Head of Business e-Commerce, Mr Mike Irvine said the launch of ANZ eGate was part of ANZ’s strategy to rapidly become the leading provider of financial services for business e-Commerce.

“ANZ is committed to assisting businesses unlock the commercial potential of the internet to grow market reach, reduce costs and create new lines of business,” Mr Irvine said.

“ANZ eGate provides businesses and their customers with the confidence of a secure, bank owned and managed payments system for the first time, and we expect to see significant growth in e-commerce in Australia as a result.

“We are already planning enhancements to ANZ eGate by expanding the range of payment types, extending geographic coverage, and introducing value added services such as receivables and payables management,” he said.

ANZ eGate builds on ANZ’s existing strength in the provision of electronic banking services to business. ANZ currently processes over five million electronic and two million electronic collections each month for its business customers through the use of leading online banking products such as ANZ OnLine, ANZ ePOS and ANZ FX Online.

ANZ has partnered with e-commerce solution provider, Creative Digital Technology (CDT), to develop ANZ eGate. Creative Digital Technology, based in Sydney, is a leading developer of internet payment and security technologies, and shop and buy applications.

Creative Digital Technology Chief Executive Officer / Chief Technology Officer, Mr Bahram Boutorabi said CDT had been recognised as the leading provider of internet payment platforms and was committed to bring the most advanced solutions to the market.

“We are excited about the potential of such a strong partnership with ANZ, who are emerging as a leading e-commerce bank in Australia,” he said.

ANZ eGate is currently being introduced to organisations this week, including eisa Limited (www.eisa.com.au), with the product generally available in November 1999.

Eisa Limited Chief Executive Officer, Mr Damien Brady said eisa expected to process in excess of 50,000 payments each month through ANZ eGate.

“ANZ eGate is the most advanced payment offering of its type and it will be a key component of our online presence,” Mr Brady said.
